As many of you know, I had myelodysplasia in 2003, a sneaky pre-AML blood cancer that was a result of large amounts of chemotherapy and radiotherapy for another cancer in 1994 and 1999. This second cancer should have swiftly taken my life but I put together a cocktail of low toxicity drugs which included metformin and a statin and I am still here! As greater numbers of people survive longer after standard treatments, more may end up developing blood cancer (I have never felt so exhausted as back then).

Blood cancer covers all sorts of diagnoses from lymphoma to leukaemia to myelomas. It is also the most common cancer in childhood. I will be meeting with Professors Farhat Khanim and Chris Bunce at Birmingham University this month to discuss their exciting repurposed drugs research: niclosamide and valproic acid (for MGUS), medroxyprogesterone and bezafibrate (for leukaemia) and metformin for leukaemia prevention! My interviews will follow. I will share their papers in my Off Label FB group. Old repurposed drugs show so much potential but we need your help to get them researched and out into clinical practice please! This research will provide data on pathways relevant for other cancers too (especially breast and prostate).

my 2025 challenge - climbing to beat blood cancer - 16,000 steps every day (about 2.5 hours of walking). In addition I am also cycling on the Peloton for 30 minutes - which Perplexity AI tells me is equivalent to 6500 steps (with my average 100 Watts output).
